Beautiful Blogger Bests - Thinking Fall with a Cable Knit Sweater Vest

This week I am featuring a beautiful blogger from down south. Tania Stephens was born in Tennessee and currently lives with her hubby in Southwest Virginia. Tania is a fireball. She is a wife, mother, and grandmother. She works at a lumber yard, is an active member in her women's club, has deep faith, and has an enormous following for her blog, 50 is Not Old, which she started in 2015. It is easy to see why Tania is so popular. She is a real, actual woman and she tells the best stories. She has a classic style and loves jewelry and handbags! Who doesn't? Ha, ha. You can read more about Tania on her About page.

The look I was inspired by just shouted fall to me. As the weather starts to get chilly we can break out our cozy sweaters and reach for our jackets. This post was from September 26, 2016 and is titled, Cable Knit Sweater VestYou can see Tania's original post by clicking on the link or by clicking on the picture.

I love simplicity and that is what this outfit says to me. What is more comfortable and simplistic than a pair of jeans, long sleeve button up and a cozy vest? Add a great pair of boots, a colorful bag and some fun jewelry and you are ready to go. I love how Tania's vest, boots and jewelry all tended toward a more neutral color against the dark wash of her jeans. Her white blouse and bright blue bag make the outfit shine.

Here is my version.

You can see here my sweater vest is orange, so I have a bit more color. I also tucked my jeans into my boots, where as Tania rolled hers up. A different style of boot calls for a little different handling of the individual pieces.

Since I wore orange, I decided to accessorize with orange jewelry too. This is the only white button up I own and while I like the casual style of the blue chambray stripe, I think I need a plain white one. I probably should have tucked it in as well. I was feeling rather sloppy! Ha, ha.

Here you can get a better look at my boots and my green thrifted bag. I thought green would be the perfect pop of color against the dark wash jeans and the orange sweater and accessories.

As always, I am thankful for the many other bloggers that continue to inspire and motivate me dress in a style that is all my own, but that can learn from others. Be sure to stop by Tania's blog and give her some love.

Have a great weekend. If you follow my faith blog, be sure to check back tomorrow for my Mulling it Over post on Ephesians 6:16.

I appreciate each one of you and all the support you give me. If you have a chance leave me a comment. I'd love to hear from you.

Beautiful Blogger Bests - Cute Top, White Jeans, Skinny Scarf, Heels!

This month I am featuring a lovely lady who has been blogging for over ten years. Starting with a blog that was geared toward The Musings of a Housewife (her original blog name), Jo-Lynne Shane has narrowed her focus to style and fashion. Her blog, Jo-Lynne Shane: My Life and Style, is widely visited and subscribed to by thousands of women looking to learn about fashion. Jo-Lynne is sweet, intelligent and giving. A woman of faith she shares her life with her husband (also her photographer), three children and a dog.

Jo-Lynne terms her style as "casual chic". I love her casual, comfortable, yet totally put together looks. The post I chose to reinvent was from March 15, 2017 and is titled, Bell Sleeve Top and White Jeans with Floral Skinny Scarf

You can either click on the title of the Jo-Lynne's blog post above, or click on her picture and it will take you to the original post, where you can read it in full and leave her some love! What I love about this look is the comfort aspect. The top is not tight and binding, yet Jo-Lynne did a fabulous job of looking so chic and put together. The pop of pink of her heels and the cute neck scarf are the perfect accessories. The outfit is balanced, not being over or under done.

For my outfit, I didn't have a bell sleeved tee so I opted for a  Sonoma brand peplum tee instead. I found this tee on the clearance rack at Kohl's. Here, here and here (plus size) are some very cute versions.  My white crop pants are an older version from Christopher and Banks. Here is a similar pair, but in an off white. They are having a pretty good sale right now too, so take a look.

Beautiful Blogger Bests - Peplum tee, white jeans outfit

I have a bit more going on in my outfit with the stripes on the tee, but I tried to tone down my accessories, so it didn't seem too busy or out of balance.

Beautiful Blogger Bests - Peplum top and white jeans

Instead of tying the scarf short around my neck, I let the oblong pieces hang which allows for some print mixing. While the colors do not match, the yellows and browns in the scarf go well with the oxford gray of the top.

Jo-Lynne's blush bag looks so good with her bright pink shoes and the pinks in the scarf. I decided to carry this goldenrod yellow Elle bag which draws out the yellows in the scarf. As far as I can tell, Elle does not make handbags anymore, or at least not for regular retail. You can find a number of Elle bags on Poshmark, an online thrift store.

Like Jo-Lynne, I kept my jewelry minimal, since the scarf adds visual interest around the neck. I wore a simple beaded cuff bracelet that picks up the browns in the scarf.

This outfit would have been fun with bright yellow heels, but I don't have a pair in my closet. Ha, ha. These gray ones work just as well. DSW has a great selection of pumps. Here is a cute pair of Clarks, My shoes are a Payless brand called Comfort Plus. You can check those out by clicking on the link.

Be sure to hop on over to Jo-Lynne's great blog. She has her own board on my Pinterest account, because I love so many of her outfits.

There are two reasons I started this Beautiful Blogger column on my blog. The first is to exposed my readers to some other really awesome fashion bloggers. The second is for purely selfish reasons, their sense of style gives me more inspiration to look great and feel confident.

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today. Have a great weekend.

Beautiful Blogger Bests - Graphic Tee and Bohemian Skirt

This week I am sharing a Beautiful Blogger named Debbie of Fashion Fairy Dust. The name of Debbie's blog, I think, suits her perfectly. She is a sassy red head who's sense of style includes edgy motorcycle jackets and boots blended with lace, ruffles and silk. The post that I derived inspiration from today is called Boho Print Skirt and Graphic Tee, and is the perfect example of Debbie's awesome style. You can read more on Debbie's About page where she shares a few fun tidbits about herself.

Doesn't she do a great job of pulling off this outfit with an eclectic vibe. The graphic tee, the leather belt, the floral print skirt with ruffle, and the converse sneakers are not items I would normally think of pairing together. After seeing Debbie's look, I was inspired to try it myself.

Beautiful Blogger Bests - Graphic tee with boho skirt

For my attempt I pulled out this fun printed maxi. Although the colors in this skirt are more, in my opinion, fallish, the skirt is very light weight, so perfect for spring and summer. To celebrate my tiny bit of French heritage, I found this Paris tee at a thrift store and loved it immediately.

Beautiful Blogger Bests - graphic tee and boho skirt

I wasn't sure if this gray tee would work with the brown, orange and yellow of the skirt, but I think it did. What do you think? Instead of a leather belt, like Debbie wore, i went with a velvet fringe number and tied it on the side. This is one of those pieces that can work as a belt or as a scarf.

Beautiful Blogger Bests - graphic tee and boho skirt

This scarf/belt is a fun piece due to the pretty bead work. I'm glad I thought to wear it with this outfit. I think it adds another element of texture and bling.

Beautiful Blogger Bests - graphic tee and boho skirt

I love Debbie's statement necklace! I probably could have worn a statement piece that contained orange, yellow, or brown, but I decided to go simple since my shirt and skirt are rather busy. These chokers came as a set from Urban Outfitters. I like that you can wear them together or separately.

Beautiful Blogger Bests - graphic tee and boho skirt

Debbie and I both went for the Converse, but mine are a mesh high top. These are a fun sneaker to pair with all sorts of things.

I love to see what different bloggers do and am so blessed to have a number of Beautiful Bloggers to chose from. They never cease to inspire me to try something new and sometimes outside my normal style.

Be sure to click on over to Debbie's site and give her some love. We both appreciate the support.

My hubby and I are going to be heading out on vacation this evening, so in addition to my normal posts next week, you'll probably see a new Travel Log. I did this last year when we went to Florida. You can see those posts, by clicking on the links: Travel Log - Post 1,  Travel Log - Post 2, Travel Log - Post 3, and Travel Log - Post 4.

Hopefully we will have internet along the way some of the time. I hope you'll join me as we travel to Maine. I'll try to post outfits, food and of course scenery. Until then. Have a great weekend!

Beautiful Blogger Bests - White with Denim

Classic looks are some of my favorite. Breezy tops, skirts, shorts of varying lengths, light weight jackets, are all clothing pieces I go back to when building a summer look. Today's post was inspired by a lovely blogger from the UK. Laurie of Vanity and Me is well acquainted with beauty and fashion, having made her way in life as a hairdresser. She is a mom, grandmother, wife and blogger. I would definitely describe Laurie's style as classic. She pieces outfits together that are stylish, comfortable and often striking, adding lovely statement accessories including jewelry, bags and shoes.

Vanity and Me - White with Denim

My inspiration for today's outfit came from Laurie's post titled, Dress Down Dayfrom April 6th. If you click on the title of the post you can see her article in full. I hope you will visit her blog and give her some love. Her outfit formula was quite simple, white pants, white tank and a chambray shirt. Add some cute accessories, pin the hair up and done! What I love about this is, while it is simple it still looks phenomenal! The contrast of white with the blue is perfect for spring and summer. I also like that, Laurie added earthy accessories. With this type of outfit she could have added any number of colors, but the browns and golds keep the outfit from becoming overly girly.

Beautiful Blogger Bests - Denim with white outfit

I decided to wear a tee instead of a tank top and I also went with capri pants instead of longer ones. The dark wash of my chambray shirt is similar to the one Laurie uses. I also kept my accessories to hues of brown and gold.

Beautiful blogger bests - wearing white with denim

I've featured this statement necklace before when I did an Awesome Accessory post here. I like that it has chains of differing lengths and ends with the pretty pendant.

Beautiful Blogger bests - wearing white with denim

I also have on a gold colored narrow belt, but it gets a little lost under the tee shirt material. I think Laurie's belt was a much better choice and makes a statement in its own right.

These sandals were a recent purchase from Kohl's. I like the way they cross over the top of the foot, making the shoe feel more secure. These also have a very cushy foot bed with a slight wedge heel. These also have zippers on the heel making them easy to get into and out of. I think I will be wearing these quite often this summer.

Beautiful Blogger Bests - The Feminine Masculine Look

One of the first bloggers I started following was Catherine of Not Dressed as Lamb. Catherine lives across the "big pond" in England and has been nominated for the coveted UK Blogger Awards. She has a huge following and it is no wonder! She's got sass, charm and a "I don't care what you think" approach to fashion. As far as she is concerned a woman can wear whatever she wants regardless of age. She approaches fashion with a flare for combining nontraditional colors and pattern mixes and makes it look fabulous!

The post that inspired me for today's outfit was from January 25th and is titled:  Wide Leg Trousers: How to Get the Katharine Hepburn LookIn Catherine's original post which you can see if you click on the title, she styles a lovely outfit that has a "masculine chic" vibe. The plaid wide leg trousers and black longer coat have a menswear inspired feel, but Catherine adds a touch of the feminine wearing a peach blouse with white polka dots, pointy toed heels and a sweet box handbag.

For my look, I took a pair of wide leg trousers that I thrifted and paired them with a sheer blue and pink top.

Beautiful blogger bests - wide leg trousers masculine chic

When I threw this outfit together I didn't realize the blue in the blouse matches the thin blue stripes in the pants. Hey I'm a pattern mixing fool! Ha, ha.

Beautiful blogger bests - wide leg trousers masculine chic

I kept my accessories similar, so the belt and the purse matched and the necklace and bracelet pulled together the pinky orange in the top.

It was a balmy 31 degrees with a wind chill of 25 when we were taking these pics. Catherine wears a black coat, which looks lovely with her outfit. I opted for my JJill velvet gray jacket.

Beautiful blogger bests - wide leg trousers masculine chic

For my shoes I wore a simple black pump. I thought this bag a good mix of masculine and feminine. It kind of resembles a mini brief case. At least that was the idea I was going for.

I think the look on my face is saying, "Hurry up! I'm freezing!" I think I need to take a modeling class. Ha, ha. I'm seeing my Dad's side of the family in this picture. Isn't that funny? Do you ever do things or look at yourself and think, "Oh my goodness. I'm doing just what my mom/dad does/did!" Or, "I know that face! That looks just like Aunt Mildred!" Actually, that is just the face I am displaying and I did have an Aunt Mildred! Ha, ha. ha.

Enough of my familial silliness! Do you think this outfit says, masculine chic? Is it too masculine? Leave me a comment in the comments section below. I love to have your input, good and bad!

Be sure to check back on the blog tomorrow when Jodie and I will be finishing our series on styling a white blouse in a variety of ways.

Until then, have a great day.

Beautiful Blogger Bests - Outfit for a Special Night Out

If you have not been introduced to Jess of Elegantly Dressed and Stylish, then I hope you will click on over to her site and see what a beautiful lady she is. Another red head, her sweet and gentle spirit touches all who come into contact with her, whether in person or over the internet. Jess was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome nine years ago. An illness that affects the muscles and joints, Jess hasn't let this stop her from being a very active and popular fashion blogger.  You can see more about EDS on Jess' About Me page on her blog.

One of the many posts that Jess has inspired me with, was this one from just before Christmas, called Rockport - What to Wear to a Holiday Show. You can see her full post by clicking on the link. While Jess was doing the post for the Rockport shoe company, I just loved the look of her outfit and thought it could be incorporated for any dress up occasion, such as a concert, theater or other function. The following post is my take on the inspiration Jess provided from her post.

Beautiful blogger bests - what to wear to a show

While Jess wore a beautiful strapless black dress, I opted for a slightly less formal look by wearing this navy dress that I got from Christopher and Banks. It is a heavy weight polyester knit that hangs perfectly. The area on the bodice has a sort of criss-crossed ruching and a v-neck.

beautiful blogger bests - outfit for a show

I opted for a black pair of loafer heels that have some fun buckles and stitching on the top of the toe. Dressy, but casual.

Beautiful blogger bests - dressing up for a show

The dress having short sleeves also prompted me, like Jess, to add a jacket over top. The berry color of this velvet piece pairs beautifully with the navy dress. You can see how I styled this jacket in these other posts here and here

Beautiful blogger bests - dressing up for a show

This is a fun little jacket with its 3/4 length sleeves, the velvet covered buttons and the ruching on the pockets. I am finding it a great blazer for dressing up or down. Here you can also see the statement necklace I added. Jess added a lovely necklace that adorned her neck with just the right amount of delicacy and bling. I tried to do a similar thing with this necklace I found a few years ago on the clearance rack at H&M.

For my finishing touches I added a few silver bracelets and carried a black blingy clutch, which I have featured with other outfits.

I love the way this outfit turned out. The sleek fabric of the dress and the jacket are a perfect back drop for the texture and bling of the statement necklace, sparkly clutch and buckled loafer heels.

Please follow the link to Jess' site and give her some love. She has inspired me in so many ways and I know she will inspire you too. Let me know what you think of this outfit in the comments section below. Do you like to go to the theater and see live shows or are you more of a stay at home and cuddle on the couch kind of person? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Beautiful Blogger Bests - Leopard Print with Maroon/Burgundy

This month the Beautiful Blogger I am sharing is Jennie of A Pocketful of Polka Dots. Jennie is an amazing fashion blogger. I love her sense of style and the fact that she is not afraid to try different looks. Jennie does everything from casual to dressy, boho to edgy. Check out Jennie's About page to learn more about this actual woman, wife, mother to four sons and full time administrative assistant (how does she do it all?).

If you click on this link Shhh! It's Secret Celebrity, it will take you to the post outfit that I derived my inspiration from. While Jennie was specifically showing off the shoes that were gifted to her from Camtrade Footwear, I just loved the outfit she put together. The mixing of the leopard print sweater with the maroon lace top, the black jeans and the maroon shoes simply called out to me to give it a try.

Let me preface this by saying, I never knew there were so many variations on the colors we refer to as maroon or burgundy. If you look at Jennie's top in her post, I would say it is more of a maroon, as maroon has more of a purple undertone. In my post I think my top is more red, so I would probably say it is more of a burgundy. Ha, ha. Once again, you can call it whatever you want.

winter outfit - leopard print with maroon/burgundy

Here is my outfit. My leopard print cardigan is a button up with 3/4 length sleeves. With the single digit temps we are having here in the Midwest, I will generally wear long sleeves with layers underneath. I might save this sweater for when it warms up again, or wear a long sleeve top underneath and let the longer sleeves show. This is an older pair of black ankle jeans.

winter outfit - leopard print with maroon/burgundy

Would you say I am doing some print mixing? The pattern on the lace top and the print on the sweater are definitely mixing it up! Print mixing doesn't always have to be pairing different colored prints together. It can also be pairing different textures and patterns together. Why does this work? I think it is due to the fact that the top is one solid color. Try imagining it with a leopard print blouse under a lacy solid color jacket. It still works. I think the black trim on the top also helps pull the two pieces together with the black trim on the cardi.

winter outfit - leopard print with maroon/burgundy

In Jennie's post she wears a gold necklace. Gold looks great with both the leopard print and the maroon/burgundy top.

winter outfit - leopard print with maroon/burgundy

Here are those shoes again! They just seem to keep popping up in my posts! Ha, ha. I never knew when I tried them on at the thrift store that they were going to be so versatile.

I love the inspiration I receive from following other bloggers. Not only do they inspire me to try new things, but they inspire me to share ideas with you. I hope you will check out Jennie's blog and give her some love!

Thanks for following along today. I hope you have a great weekend!
