Outfit Inspiration - Eva Trends - Lace Body Kimono

I introduced Eva Trends. back in March with an outfit styled around a tassel knitted sweater top. You can see that post here. My second post revolved around a bright color block cape sweater. You can see that post here. When I was contacted by Eva Trends, I was excited to try a few of their trendy, interesting styles. What I really like about this retailer are the unexpected color combinations and the pretty details. For featuring them on my blog I was gifted three pieces of my choice. All opinions are my own.

This last piece from Eva Trends is a lovely knee length kimono. The lace body button-up sleeve cardigan is a versatile piece, so I decided to dedicate two posts to it, to show you different ways of styling. In this post I show you how to wear it with a dress and a longer skirt.

Look 1 - Over a Little Black Dress

You can see from the picture the kimono is very flowy. It is made of a light weight polyester, cotton blend. The trim around the edges is a sheer chiffon type material. When I wash this I will put it in a laundry bag and then hang it to dry. Eva Trends recommends washing most of their pieces by hand to keep them in tip top shape.

Here is a back view. You can see the pretty lace that covers the whole upper portion front and back.

The black dress I am wearing underneath I bought about four years ago on the clearance rack at Kohl's. It is a cute little number made of thick knit material and is easy to get on and off.

For accessories with this outfit, I chose gold. I love this elegant statement necklace. I think I got it at JC Penney. I also added a bracelet and grabbed my gold clutch.

I wore my black heels to finish the ensemble.

Look 2 - Over a Maxi Skirt

For this second look, I wore my Chaps maxi skirt from Kohl's and a gray tank top.

It wasn't snowing when we took these pictures, but it was really cold out and there was a light breeze. That's fine, when it is 70 or 80, but not when it is only 32!

Since the tank top has an embellished neckline, I only wore a bracelet for my jewelry.

I chose this little straw bag to keep the look a little more casual, but in a springy sort of way. For shoes I went with another pair of black heels, but this pair has a block heel and a pointier toe.

Here are the two outfits side by side.

Do you like this lace body kimono from Eva Trends? How would you style a piece like this? Be sure to check back for the second post on this piece on next week's Ordinary Amy post.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Have a wonderful weekend. We are supposed to have a few days of real spring weather, so I am looking forward to that! Have a good one.

Marvelous Maxis - A+ A-lines

This is the final installment in my Marvelous Maxis series. An A-line skirt is basically a skirt that is narrow at the waist then subtly flares out toward the bottom, thus the "A" look. I have always been a fan of the A-line skirt because it is figure flattering, but still allows for room through the hips and thighs. It is also a great skirt to wear if you want some flare, but don't want a lot of excess material.

Today's skirt is from Dressbarn. If you are not familiar with Dressbarn they are a women's clothing retailer selling sizes 4-24. I hadn't been in a Dressbarn in ages, but then visited one with my girlfriend while I was back in NY a few months ago. I was glad I did. They have a fun and whimsical style with a variety of prints, colors and cuts in pants, skirts, dresses and tops. They also sell accessories like shoes, bags and jewelry. It took everything in my power to not spend more than I did!

Look 1 - Casual

I fell in love with the print on this skirt, knowing that I will be able to use it for spring, summer and fall. The skirt is a somewhat sheer material, but is fully lined so you don't have to worry about finding a slip to wear underneath.

The lining has knee high slits on both sides, making it easy to walk and sit without feeling bound in. Here is a pretty fuschia floral print.

I paired the skirt with a simple embellished orange tank top. This is a St. John's Bay brand which is found at JC Penney. My tank was thrifted. I tucked the top in, to keep a more figure flattering silhouette. Notice after I tucked it in, I pulled it out a touch, to allow the material to bag out to camouflage my bulges. We have to have a trick or two to hide our baggage!

Since the tank has all this bling, I decided to not wear a necklace. For accessories I just wore a multi-strand beaded bracelet, carried a small macrame bag and wore my lace up sandals. I bought these sandals at Meijer. Meijer is a grocery and clothing retailer here in the midwest. I was surprised to find out that their Massini clothing line is now backed by Stacy London of What Not to Wear fame. Meijer is trying to create a style for every body.

Look 2 - Dressy

For a more dressy look, I swapped the casual tank for my glitzy taupe short sleeved pullover blouse. This piece was thrifted and is The Limited brand. The Limited is no longer available as they closed their stores back in January. You can see how I styled this blouse in last fall's Pantone series here

I also added a gold clutch and gold Covington wedge sandals, Sears carries Covington brand shoes. I also added a fun pendant necklace.

Here are the two looks side by side.

I hope you enjoyed this series on maxi skirts. These skirts are a great option when you want to have your legs covered, but don't want to wear pant or hose. Do you have maxi skirts in your closet? How do you like to wear them? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Have a great week!

Denim Daze - The Chambray Shirt

Chambray is not a true denim. However, we can wear chambray like denim as far as wash and color. See the difference between these two fabrics by clicking on this link to Proper Cloth. That being said, I have included a chambray shirt in the denim series because it "looks" like denim. Chambray is much softer and more moveable than true denim, so I can wear a chambray shirt as a shirt or as a jacket as I show in my two looks for today, but I would not usually wear a denim jacket as a shirt as it is too stiff and thick.

For this casual look I tucked the polka dot chambray shirt into a pair of pink polka dot pants. Yes, I did some print mixing, but I felt that it worked because the print on the pants is so much smaller than the print on the shirt. I kept the look casual and a touch boho with my woven drawstring bag, beaded woven belt and the suede loafers as seen below. The jewelry is a simple strand of brown beads.

In the next look, the chambray shirt becomes a light weight jacket and is worn open over a light blush tank. These together, top a pleated maroon skirt. My pewter sparkly bag that I have used on other occasions (see here , here and here) is worn with the strap over the shoulder. I am showing the front and back of this look so you can see my hair which is pulled to the side in a chignon type bun.

In the above picture you can see the bling on the tank. Vertical stripes made with tiny metallic dots cover the top half of the shirt. It makes something so simple, dressy and I opted to not wear a necklace as the bling speaks for itself. I added a simple gold bracelet as my only jewelry. I love this bracelet. It has a spring hinge so it opens to put on and then snaps closed around my wrist; no struggling with a clasp. I wore my nude peep toe heels. I bought these shoes for my daughters wedding two years ago. They are classy, but fairly comfortable and with the strap there are no worries that my foot will fall out of my shoe.

I'm really starting to sound like i have security issues aren't I? Bracelets that snap around my wrist, shoes with straps around my ankles and if you continue to follow me you'll find I keep most things covered up. Does that make me insecure or comfortable, confident and mysterious? It all depends on how you look at things.

So here are the two looks side by side. Which one do you like better? What else do you like to do with your chambray shirts? Leave me a comment below.

Between the Lines: Final Week and Styling a Light Pink Pair of Jeggings - Post 2

It is hard to believe that our Between the LInes series, started by Katherine at http://katherinescorner.com/ is drawing to a close. This series featured all sorts of bloggers over the age of 50. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the link for the final installment.

This week I took my light pink jeggings and styled them in a fun, casual way. I used to find it hard to pair things with pink, but my fashion eyes have been opened and I think color matching or mismatching is all about what you love and what you want to say with your clothes. I still have a disposition towards matching, but I am trying to get away from that more and more. A real statement can be made by putting "clashing" colors together.

I never used to think that orange and pink went together. Or that it was just too much, but pairing a bright, true orange with these pale pink jeggings is a perfect blend of bright and subtle.

This cute little jacket that I found at a thrift store is a colorful statement piece. It is full of varying shades and psychedelic patterns that pair perfectly with the solid top and pants. I can't wait to try this jacket with some other pieces. The gold belt is a great way to pull in my waist and the color matches perfectly with the embellishment on the tank top.

I ended up wearing my leopard print flats with the outfit, just as another way to mix things up. I think adding a leopard print or a gold clutch would have pulled the whole outfit together. I also would have added a bracelet or some bright colored bangles. Rolling up the legs on the jeggings adds to the casual look.

I enjoyed putting this outfit together and felt it expressed a little of my bohemian, gypsy inner vibe. Trying to stretch ourselves as fashion bloggers and as women, I am finding that there are things I like and things I don't. I am trying to be more open minded to different color combinations and find my own sense of fashion. I am a work in progress and so are you. Embracing that fact is the first step in becoming your own person with your own style.
