Pantone Autumn/Winter 2025 - New York Palette: Brandied Melon, Hot Chocolate and Bright White

Today I am showing you outfit #5 from my Pantone Autumn/Winter New York Palette series. This is the last trio of colors from this fall palette, and hopefully next week I’ll start the London color palette. You can see the original colors in this Pinterest pin.

Today’s outfit revolves around a mellow orange named Brandied Melon, a soothing brown reminiscent of Hot Chocolate, and Bright White, mimicking the gorgeous clouds we see meandering through the late summer sky.

I chose this unique, thrifted patchwork top for the pops of Brandied Melon. I love the boho vibe and the variety of colors and print. I looked up this brand, Style & Co, and found that Macy’s was the original retailer. I always find it interesting that I will find a certain brand and then find more pieces of that brand as I thrift. I must be drawn to them for a reason.

My Bright White Gloria Vanderbilt jeans have been around for years. I purchased them new at JC Penney, and use them whenever I need a pair of crisp, white pants that are both casual and dressy. I have a hard time photographing white, or any lighter colors outside. Oh well, not worries. You get the idea. You can see these jeans styled with a yellow sweater, a floral kimono, a velvet jacket, a fall jacket, with a white top and sweater, a black vest, and a multi print top. There are more, but you get the idea. White pants are not restricted by any season and go with every color.

Since the top didn’t contain any browns, I added my thrifted Hot Chocolate corduroy bag. I love this roomy, casual bag, and the strap is long enough I can use it like a cross body bag.

I kept my accessories simple. My faux suede, SO ankle boots were from Kohl’s a number of years ago. My necklace was from a few years ago.

If the weather was cooler, I could easily add a longer cardigan for another layer by picking another color in the top. It would look great with olive, black, white, and even the Mauve Wine (see my first outfit in this series, here.)

Layering Love - Styling a Summer Skirt

One issue with living where the seasons change is the need to change our wardrobes from cooler weather to warmer and back again. Due to my clothes horse tendencies and the small amount of closet space in our home, I have to actually put my change of season clothing in bins when not in use. Since I became a blogger, I have been trying to use more of my wardrobe all year round. 

This particular Jones Wear skirt I have styled on the blog earlier this fall when I was doing the Pantone Fall 2017 series. You can see that post here. It was intended for summer use with a light weight whimsical print layered over a full length sateen lining, thus no need for a slip. However, I thought the colors in this skirt would transfer easily to fall, which I think I showed in the Pantone post. 

I started thinking that if I could use it for fall, why not try a winter outfit as well. What you see below is what I came up with. 

 I first came up with this idea before the holidays, so it does have a little bit of Christmas vibe to it, but you could easily swap out the maroon scarf for something drawing on other colors in the skirt. The skirt has a purply blue, golden yellow.and various shades of green. It would also look pretty with a cream or ivory scarf as well. 

The sweater is thrifted and Old Navy brand. A simple cardigan, I really like the bright, Kelly green color. The biggest problem I have found with these types of sweaters is pilling. Do any of you have special ways you deal with pills?  I have tried razors, sweater shavers and just plain old, pulling off the pills with my fingers. Let me know what you do. I'd love to know. 

The scarf is a oblong rectangle, made of light weight material and trimmed with gold threads and fringe. I also chose bracelets with the same burgundy/maroon colors to go with the scarf and red colors in the skirt.

I chose my brown corduroy hobo bag and brown corduroy quilted ballet flats, although this outfit would also work with my mid calf brown suede boots. 

Of course, because these Thursday posts are all about layering, I have a cami under the sweater. Another way to wear the sweater would be to skip the scarf, add a tee or long sleeve top under the sweater drawing on one of the other colors in the skirt and add layers of necklaces.

Pantone Fall 2107 - The London Palette - Royal Lilac and Golden Olive

This is the final installment in the London series of colors from the Pantone Fall 2017 palette. I love the brightness of these two colors, especially together. For some reason they make me think of fall and of a Bohemian gypsy vibe. Maybe it is a flash back from the bright psychedelic colors of the late 60's and early 70's. Royal Lilac is a purple worthy of a king. Purple is one of my favorite colors and we rarely see it on the runways and magazines of the fashion world. Purples in those realms seem to tend more towards wines, burgundies or maroons.

Once again, let me say that when I look for these colors I try to get as close as possible to the color that is being portrayed in the Pantone palette. My colors do not always match exactly, but the point is to introduce you to the colors on the palette and show you ways to style those colors. Just like Toast and Copper Tan, Golden Olive was a difficult color to find. I had this top in my closet and the actual color seems a bit more green than what appears in the pictures, but not quite like the Golden Olive.

Out of all the color pairings that I did from the London palette, I like this one the best. There is something about the contrast between the purple and the mustardy yellow, that appeals to my inner gypsy. In keeping with that idea, I thought I would accessorize with a brown hobo bag and brown slouchy boots. 

For my jewelry I added a brown lariat choker and a long metal and bead necklace that tied into the purple skirt

One of the other things I like about this outfit is the comfort. The material of the top and the skirt is basically heavy weight tee shirt material, so it moves with me and there is no binding or pinching. This is also a great transitional outfit as the weather cools. The 3/4 length sleeves on the shirt, the maxi length skirt and the boots all provide full coverage for those chilly days ahead.
