Pantone Autumn/Winter 2023 - New York Palette: Rose Violet, High Visibility, and Doe

Today I am bringing you another outfit in my Pantone Autumn/Winter color series. I find these colors on the Pantone website. My renditions of their color palette may not always be an exact match, but I shop my closet and try to find the pieces that come as close as possible to their color choices. I want you to be able to shop your wardrobe as well. You may not have all of these colors in your closet like I do, but you will certainly have two or three. The idea is to take those colors and use them in new ways to make outfits you never thought of before.

I love the boho vibe of this outfit. The bright colors, tiered skirt and fringe bag are all indicative of many Bohemian outfits.

I was having a hard time decided which piece to use for the Rose Violet color. It is a bright, fuchsia pink and though I had my Button Front Maxi Dress from Closet52 (no longer in business), it was too overwhelming. I felt the bright pink and the bright yellow were needed in small doses, thus this fun, thrifted, tiered maxi skirt.

I added the old Christopher and Banks cat eye necklace to pull the Rose Violet color upwards, and I also wore make up allowing for a softer version of the bright pink on my face.

My Doe colored sweater was a fabulous thrift find. I thought the neutral color with the glistening, metallic dots would be great for the up coming holidays with a versatility that allows for dressing up or down.

High Visibility is certainly so. This bright yellow is so cheerful and definitely a pick-me-up on a cloudy, rainy day. Again, the skirt uses a paler version of the yellow to keep the outfit completely compatible through out.

My accessories remained in the neutral shade to allow the bright pink and yellow to be the focal points for the outfit. The sweater is quite long, hanging below my bottom so I tucked it in and added the belt. It brings additional interest, texture and gives me a more refined hour glass silhouette.

I added the thrifted fringe bag, and my older suede ankle boots which have a low heel helping to keep the skirt off the floor.

Kickin' It with Kimonos - Orange Floral

Today’s look involves some bold print mixing, but why not? It is fun to think outside the box when it comes to building an outfit and one way to do that is to mix prints. This might not appeal to you, because it is a little busy, but there is something about this I really like. I think it might be that this outfit has a bit of a bohemian vibe. The colors do lean a little bit more towards fall, but seeing as we are now in the month of August, I think it is a great transitional look.

This chevron print dress is Sonoma brand. I just loved the colors of this thrifted piece and knew I had to bring it home with me when I found it. You can see how I styled this same piece with a pair of crop pants in one of my previous Pantone series.

I am not sure what I was doing with my mouth, be these sorts of pictures have been pretty typical throughout my whole photographic career. Ha, ha.

I ordered this orange floral ruana from a boutique retailer called Glamour Farms. I used to follow several bloggers who featured a number of their pieces and I thought they were cute. This ruana was on clearance and I loved the color and the pattern. Unfortunately when I got it, the seams they put at the sides to make it more secure and have sleeves, made the piece too small. I just removed a few inches of stitching and now it is perfect.

The above picture also gives you a closer look at the thrifted necklace and my beaded bracelets. I thought this necklace was a very unique blend of brassy metallics and wooden beads.

My thinking is, a good boho outfit always should include some fringe, thus this thrifted bag. This is a very simple hand crafted piece, but I just love the fringy layers and it definitely appeals to my inner hippy. I have had these Montego Bay Club sandals for ages. I used to wear them quite a bit, but more recently I haven’t really been wearing sandals as much. I’m glad I thought of these, however, and I think they work just right for this outfit. What do you think?

Spring Trends 2020 - Actual Amy - Drawstrings, Chunky Jewelry and Fringe

This is the final post in my Spring Trends 2020 series. I hope you have enjoyed seeing the variety in the trends for spring and summer this year. Typically trends happen twice a year, just like the Pantone Colors; once in the spring, covering spring and summer and once in the fall, covering fall and winter. Even if you are not a trend watcher, I think it is fun to at least be aware of what is going on in that regard. It is a fun way to expand your thinking and your wardrobe, and if you do like a particular trend, chances are you will already have it in your closet.

Today’s outfit is a typical Amy fashion. As I have said before, I love my jeans. I love soft comfy sweaters, fun jewelry and you will more often in warmer months see me in a sneaker type of shoe rather than a sandal. I have also like vests for as long as I can remember.

We took these pictures in my daughter’s garage. Isn’t that amazing? It looks like we are in some big studio somewhere. She likes to play with her cameras, backdrops and lighting, just like I like to play with clothes, so we get along pretty good. Ha, ha.

My light pink sweater is A New Day brand from Target, but I found it at a Goodwill store. For whatever reason the fashion gurus seem to think there is need to focus on drawstrings as a trend for this spring. I would have never thought to focus on that sort of a detail, but when I saw that it was on the list and I came upon this sweater thrifting, I grabbed it. Not only does it fit the drawstring detail, but it is soft and extremely comfortable. Plus it is the perfect weight for spring.

My olive green vest is a clearance purchase from Kohl’s and is Mudd brand. I styled this on the blog last spring when the trend was utility dressing. You can see that post here. A vest is a great way to add a layer of warmth, but not the excessive layers of sweaters or jackets. Spring can be a tricky time to dress with temperatures fluctuating more than 30 degrees or more on any given day. This utility vest works great for just that purpose and I like the way the pink and olive compliment each other.

Chunky jewelry is fashionable right now, especially large link chains and bright colors. This wood and chain necklace was a Christmas gift from my older daughter a few years ago and the leaf necklace was gifted to me from Happiness Boutique from fall of 2018. You can see that post here.

It seems that fringe is still hanging around, which is fine with me. I love this burgundy fringe bag and don’t get to show it off nearly enough.

These Puma sneakers were thrifted. I don’t know why I feel that my shoes have to match something in my outfit. They really don’t need to and many times my shoes don’t match anything, but once in a while, it is fun to play the matchy game.

Spring Trends 2020 - Thrifted Thursday - Head to Toe Denim

Today’s outfit revolves around the Spring 2020 trend of head to toe denim. While this may not be a trend that many women would embrace, I actually like it. Denim and I have been friends for a long time, whether it was wearing cut off jean shorts in the summer, overalls in the winter, bell bottoms or skinny legs, jackets or vests, denim has always been a part of my life. When I was younger, most denim was made with cotton. The beauty of the piece came out as it became worn. Jeans were often stiff, but after weeks of wear and washings, the fabric became like a comfortable sweatshirt, easy to wear and to take care of. Now denim is so versatile from the fabrics it is mixed with to the color wash, you can find denim to wear for lounging around the campfire, going to work or even for a night on the town.

Since I started doing these columns, I decided to use the columns as a way to show off the current theme with an added twist. today’s outfit is completely thrifted, except for the shoes and jewelry.

I saw on Jo-Lynne Shane’s Spring Fashion Forecast that wide leg pants were on the list. She did say, even though these are mentioned, she hasn’t been seeing them around much and you really have to have the right body type to pull them off. As I look at this outfit, I agree. I am carrying around about twenty more pounds than I really should be and maybe these thrifted wide leg Banana Republic jeans would look better with a little less puff around my thighs and butt.

The embroidery on this thrifted J.Jill - Out of the Blue, jacket was definitely a selling point for me. For some reason I have always been a fan of embroidered embellishments on clothes, shoes and bags. I used to embroider quite a bit when I was younger and had a number of denim pieces, including a vest my mom and I had made together, that I put embroidery on. I can see wearing this jacket with white pants or a skirt, as well as with various washes of denim cropped pants in the summer.

With this outfit I am using three washes; a dark wash shirt, a medium wash pant and a light wash jacket. You could just as easily pull it off with denim pieces all from the same wash. Part of the beauty of denim is even in the same wash a piece can look quite different.

My dark wash chambray shirt has 3/4 length sleeves, and two flap front pockets. I think it is good to have at least one chambray shirt, or in my case, at least one in all three washes. Ha, ha

Once again, I kept the jewelry simple and casual. I think rose gold is the perfect metal for dressing up or down and it goes beautifully with denim in any wash.

My fringe bag was another thrift find and I think it may have been hand made. It is suede and has no label inside. It gives the outfit a great hippy vibe and you will see, that many of my outfits in this series seem to veer that way, maybe because many of the trends are quite conducive to that vibe.

My shoes have made an appearance on the blog recently and while they are definitely a winter boot, in our area, spring has not yet arrived. They are Sonoma brand and I got them from Kohl’s.

I decided to add a colorful head scarf to the outfit, just to add a tiny element of color. It has some gold threads in it too, so I thought it went well with the jewelry and the outfit as a whole.
