Color Play: Pantone Color of the Year Mocha Mousse with Brown and Gray

If you keep up with the Pantone Color of the Year, you know that this year’s color is a creamy brown with rosy undertones looking much like the dessert it is named after, Mocha Mousse. Click on the link to see the actual color. As I began looking through my closet, which contains almost every color under the sun, I realized I don’t have anything this exact color. The closest I came was a piece that is a little bit lighter version of the actual color, but I thought it would do for this post.

This tunic length sweater was a thrift find from last year. It is Lauren Conrad brand and I love the soft texture and the cute heart

I thought adding this thrifted, brown Fever vest a good way to further infuse the idea of the chocolatey goodness of mousse.

Style Tip: Adding a vest is a great way to have the fun of layering without the added weight and warmth. Vests are perfect for these transitional times between winter and spring, and summer and fall. Look for lighter weight, flowy vests that still provide coverage, but don’t add too much heat.

I decided to use my second hand White House Black Market Blanc jeans. It is nice to fit back into this trouser type pant to take a casual look up a notch.

Style Tip: Adding a pair or two of trouser type jeans, which have a somewhat wider silhouette allows you to dress up an outfit without going outside your “jeans box”. You know I am an avid fan of jeans and they are what I wear most of the time, but it is nice to have the option of a jean in a different style and/or color for a completely different look.

I decided to go for rose gold in my jewelry which I think goes well with the brown and the Mocha Mousse colors. I also added my pink Bueno crossbody bag which was a gift from my younger daughter a few years ago.

My thrifted patent leather ankle boots have made an appearance on the blog before and are Forever 21 brand. Apparently patent leather is making a come back this year, so if you have any of those in the shoe direction get them out of the dark corners of your closet and let them shine.

Pantone - Autumn/Winter - 2021 - London Palette: First Blush, Ibiza Blue and Ultimate Gray

Due to my longer than usual absence from the blog because of my illness, I am going to bypass the wrap up of the New York Palette and the Intro to the London Palette for the Pantone 2021 color series and jump right into the London Palette, so that I can get this series concluded and get on with new content. I have been trying to give a more daily content on Instagram, which now also shows up on my regular Facebook account, but unfortunately, I have not been posting over on my Granny page. I guess I should start doing that as well. You would think all of these things would just be linked together. A few of the meds I am on are making my brain a bit dopey, so bear with me as I try to get things back into some sort of regular routine.

Here we are again, looking at a pastel pink on the fall color palette. I know pastels in fall are no longer taboo, but my brain still looks at this and thinks, “What a great spring outfit!” Maybe I should have paired First Blush with one of colors that seem more Autumnal to me, like Tomato Cream or Downtown Brown, but I liked the combination of blue and pink, so this is what you get.

My Ibeza Blue plaid shirt is a thrifted Faded Glory piece. I used this same plaid shirt in the spring for the French Blue color that was on the New York Palette. You can see that post here. You’ve seen these thrifted, distressed Lane Bryant jeans numerous times on the blog as they are one of my faves.

My First Blush jacket is also a repeat from my closet. Originally a Christopher and Banks purchase, this faux leather piece has some knit panels on the sides and under the arms to allow ease of movement and stretch. I added the scarf to bring in a little bit of added interest and additional color, plus with this being a fall outfit, the need for a scarf seemed more likely.

Ultimate Gray, once again makes its appearance on the London Palette, so I used this for my accessories in the metal chain belt, thrifted fold over bag and my silver sneakers. The only thing I did differently was the rose gold pendant. I just liked the way the color popped against the blue plaid.

While this look is certainly not what we would typically think of for the holidays, if you are more into pastel colors, this is a great casual look for that Thanksgiving celebration, especially if it involves a bit of shopping afterwards.

Holiday Outfit - What Will You Be Wearing for New Years?

I don't know about you, but I am having severe Christmas with drawl. Do any of you experience the after Christmas blues? We had a great time with family, but all the work and anticipation leading up to that precious time is over. It makes me sad. Not sad that I had to do a lot of work, but sad that it is over. Our families are precious to us and time is a gift, so when it disappears in the blink of an eye it can leave me feeling like I just got the wind knocked out of me. I have found the best thing for me to do when I am feeling that way is be grateful, pray and move forward. On to the next thing.

Christmas is over and the new year is on the way. My husband and I don't really do anything on New Years Eve, except go to bed early. Ha, ha. However, maybe one of these days we will get all dolled up and go to a party. You never know, what the future will bring. If I did go to a New Years Eve party this outfit, might be the perfect choice.

This gold skirt is a great piece to build an outfit around for New Years. It flows and shimmers. This is Lauren Conrad brand from Kohl's. I ordered it online at the end of the spring season so I got a good deal.

For the top I chose a sparkly gray sweater from ANA. It's a loose weave, but close enough that I didn't need to wear a cami underneath. I also added my City Steets floral bomber jacket from JC Penney. I think it gives a fun, but casual vibe to this dressy outfit. You can see how I styled this jacket before on the blog here.

I chose a rose gold pendant necklace and a gold clutch. When you see the clutch and skirt together, the skirt looks more blush or tan, than gold.

These heels you have seen before. A simple pump in any color is a good way to dress up an outfit. Heels don't have to be complicated with straps or embellishments to add class to your outfit. A heeled shoe elevates your look regardless of how fancy it is.

What are your New Year's plans? Will you be going to a party? We will be traveling south looking for warmer weather. We hope to meet our kids in the Tampa area to spend the New Year's weekend together.
