Pantone - Autumn/Winter - 2021 - London Palette: Green Bee, Downtown Brown, and Olive Branch

Hi everyone! November is zooming along and I am still trying to get back into some sort of rhythm, not only here on the blog, but in life. Anyone who suffers from a long term illness can relate to what I am talking about. Not being able to sleep for such a long period of time and still dealing with unresolved symptoms make it hard to get back to what I would say is a normal routine. However, I know there are people who are struggling with much worse situations and I am thankful that I am able to do as much as I can. In fact, this past weekend, we were able to travel to celebrate my mother-in-law’s 80th birthday with her, so that was good.

Unfortunately, there has also been other difficult things along the way. My son-in-law lost his grandfather this past week and I know that has been a great loss for the whole family. He was a dear man, a wonderful painter and loved his family, so he will be missed. As many of you can relate, it seems as we get older, we see loss happening around us at a more frequent pace. This too is part of life, and for me knowing God is holding me and my loved ones during these times, makes it a little less painful.

Now on to another outfit. As I said last week, while I am wildly behind, I decided to go ahead and show you these Pantone London Palette outfits as possible sources of inspiration for Thanksgiving Day wear. Many of you will be celebrating with friends or family and it is a good reason, to get out of those sweat pants and dress up a little bit, if just for your own mental well being.

You can’t go wrong with a pair of trousers, a pretty top and a fun scarf and bag. Obviously, you can pick your colors, but I chose to combine these earthy tones for a look that is a mix of military meets, moto chic.

My Downtown Brown moto jacket is a thrifted piece that I have styled on the blog before. It is a brand called Celebrity Works. I do like this medium milk chocolate brown. Browns can be tricky to wear, especially when they contain a little too much gray or a little more red, or well, you get the idea. A true brown is hard to find, but I think this brown hits the mark, so thank you Pantone for that one.

You’ve seen my Olive Branch pants numerous times on the blog as well. As I look at them in these pictures, I am thinking I might need to find a replacement pair. These are starting to look worn and really don’t look very flattering. Of course that may have had something to do with my chubby thighs. Ha, ha. These were Gloria Vanderbilt brand and I probably got them at Kohl’s.

For the Green Bee color I chose a thrifted Studio Works popover top that I did the front tuck on, which gave it the blouson effect. I also added the Green Bee paisley print scarf. The thought to add the Dana Buchman floral bag was a last minute addition, but I like how it pulled everything together. A fun floral bag is a great addition to your wardrobe, especially when it can serve multiple season duty. This one works just as well in spring, summer and fall.

I chose my trusty Olive Branch SO ankle boots for my shoes. My ankle boots definitely get used in these cooler fall temps.

Pantone - Autumn/Winter - 2021 - London Palette: First Blush, Ibiza Blue and Ultimate Gray

Due to my longer than usual absence from the blog because of my illness, I am going to bypass the wrap up of the New York Palette and the Intro to the London Palette for the Pantone 2021 color series and jump right into the London Palette, so that I can get this series concluded and get on with new content. I have been trying to give a more daily content on Instagram, which now also shows up on my regular Facebook account, but unfortunately, I have not been posting over on my Granny page. I guess I should start doing that as well. You would think all of these things would just be linked together. A few of the meds I am on are making my brain a bit dopey, so bear with me as I try to get things back into some sort of regular routine.

Here we are again, looking at a pastel pink on the fall color palette. I know pastels in fall are no longer taboo, but my brain still looks at this and thinks, “What a great spring outfit!” Maybe I should have paired First Blush with one of colors that seem more Autumnal to me, like Tomato Cream or Downtown Brown, but I liked the combination of blue and pink, so this is what you get.

My Ibeza Blue plaid shirt is a thrifted Faded Glory piece. I used this same plaid shirt in the spring for the French Blue color that was on the New York Palette. You can see that post here. You’ve seen these thrifted, distressed Lane Bryant jeans numerous times on the blog as they are one of my faves.

My First Blush jacket is also a repeat from my closet. Originally a Christopher and Banks purchase, this faux leather piece has some knit panels on the sides and under the arms to allow ease of movement and stretch. I added the scarf to bring in a little bit of added interest and additional color, plus with this being a fall outfit, the need for a scarf seemed more likely.

Ultimate Gray, once again makes its appearance on the London Palette, so I used this for my accessories in the metal chain belt, thrifted fold over bag and my silver sneakers. The only thing I did differently was the rose gold pendant. I just liked the way the color popped against the blue plaid.

While this look is certainly not what we would typically think of for the holidays, if you are more into pastel colors, this is a great casual look for that Thanksgiving celebration, especially if it involves a bit of shopping afterwards.

Pantone - Spring/Summer - 2021 - Both Palettes with all the Outfits.

I always think it is fun to do a post featuring all the outfits from my Pantone color series. I really spread these out this year due to scheduling issues, so that’s even more of a reason to look back at all of the outfits. I will also let you know, which ones were my faves.

New York Palette

I would have to say, from the New York Palette, my favorite combination is the Amethyst Orchid, Ash Green and Inkwell. I love the contrast of the dark navy blue and the pastel colors. It just makes the outfit pop. I also love the light green with the light purple. It is a very pretty combo for spring and summer. In addition, I really liked the casual vibe of the French Blue, Cerulean and Butter Cream combo. both of these are outfits I would wear. What were your favorite colors? I really liked this palette over all, because I love all of the colors. My favorite combination was the outfit that I got the most positive feedback on, Beach Glass, Blue Atoll and Macchiato. There is just something so summery and uplifting about these tropical blues and warm brown. I also liked the challenge of combining Purple Rose and Lava Falls. I would have never thought to pair this medium purple with a bold red, but I think it worked. What were your favorite colors from this palette? What is your favorite outfit?

Pantone - Spring/Summer - 2021 - London Palette - Beach Glass, Blue Atoll and Macchiato

We’ve reached the end of the Pantone - London Palette series with these last three colors which make me think of tropical seas and sandy beaches. Like Tuesday’s post, where I combined two different greens from the palette, today’s post combines two summery blues for a light, airy, warm weather look.

I started figuring this outfit out with my light blue, thrifted Sonoma crop pants. Though they are a bit lighter than the Beach Glass color, I think they still work. I pull these out every spring and summer as a light weight alternative to denim.

My multi-print top is another thrift store find. I just loved the soft colors and print on this popover blouse. It has no tag in it, so I have no idea what the brand was. The print has the light Beach Glass blue, as well as the darker Macchiato.. You’ll see a close up in the next photo.

For the darker Blue Atoll color I decided to add a few pieces of jewelry. I had some long, opera length beads and decided to do some layering with the necklaces. I also added a beaded bracelet, that appears to better match the Beach Glass color.

For the Macchiato color, I played around with several pieces, but everything seemed too yellow. This longer sweater was a recent purchase from Cracker Barrel. While they are a restaurant, they also have what they call an Old Country Store. The store is filled with all sorts of items from old fashioned candy, beautiful home decor, quilts, jewelry, cards, music and clothing. If you click on the link, it will take you to the sweater and it is on sale. Whoo, hoo. If you like it snatch it up. Here are a few photos to show you the details of this pretty piece and the movement. It is a light weight material, so it will be great for spring, summer and fall.

My bag is Madden brand; a clearance find from Kohl’s. My perforated peep toe shoes are Sonoma brand and another Kohl’s purchase from a few years ago.

Pantone - Spring/Summer - 2021 - London Palette - Pickled Pepper, Orange Ochre and Sphagnum

For today’s outfit I decided to combine the two greens that were on the London Palette. Both Pickled Pepper and Sphagnum are great green shades for summer time. While Pickled Pepper is one of the main palette colors, Sphagnum is one of the palette classic colors. Olive is a great neutral and goes with just about every color out there, so Sphagnum, (which is actually a type of moss), makes for the perfect classic color.

My Pickled Pepper popover top is Sonoma from Kohl’s a few years ago. This top is easy to wear, as well as cool for these hot, humid days. I don’t usually prefer to wear sleeves with elastic, but as long as the elastic isn’t cutting off the circulation in my arms I’m okay with it.

My Sphagnum utility vest is Mudd brand, and was another clearance purchase from Kohl’s a few seasons ago.

These light wash jeans were a recent thrift find. A brand called Ella Moss, this brand is available at stores like Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Amazon, Dillards, and others. I like the cropped length and the high waist of this pair.

For the Orange Ochre color, I grabbed my thrifted, orange suede bag and a fun pendant choker. It is much easier to include a brighter color, if you do it with accessories.

I had to show off my new clearance Converse sneakers from DSW. They are very comfy and I love the blue color. They are similar in color to my thrifted Keds, which are showing a bit of wear, so these were a great find.

Pantone - Spring/Summer - 2021 - London Palette - Purple Rose, Lava Falls and Baby's Breath

Today’s colors are a blend of pastel purple, bold red and creamy off white. I have always loved purple, but it really isn’t a color I regularly wear. I easily got on board with Purple Rose which is a medium purple that goes well with many other colors, especially things like brown, olive and navy. Why, then did I decide to pair it with a fierce red like Lava Falls? Because I always like to show you things outside the box. It is not very often, that I think to put purple and red together.

The factor that clinched the deal on putting these colors together, was that my thrifted Old Navy, Lava Falls, paisley popover top had both of these colors in it. How fortuitous was that? Ha, ha. This is a fun, tunic type shirt that has short sleeves, and the interesting details of a shirt tail hem line and a lace up v-neck. I love the paisley print too, which always reminds me of the 70’s.

The Croft and Barrow cardigan is older and I like I said, doesn’t get a lot of regular wear, but i just love the color so I keep it around.

You’ve seen these creamy, Baby’s Breath, thrifted, St. John’s Bay ankle pants on the blog before. I really think this look would have been cuter with a creamy denim pencil skirt or a pair of Bermuda shorts, but I don’t have either of those. I am not as fond of the silhouette, but it is okay, just not great.

I didn’t need to wear a necklace and this long opera length beaded strand is exactly the same color as the top, but sometimes I like the subtle texture and shine of a piece, even if it is a similar color. Wrapping this long strand of beads around my neck makes it look like I have on a choker.

I added a few beaded bracelets with similar reds, although there is plenty going on in the top, so it wasn’t really needed. Often, less is more.

My thrifted Simply Vera, Vera Wang cross body bag is making another appearance. This is a great little bag for the warmer months. The off white color goes perfectly with the Baby’s Breath color of the pants.

These Steve Madden platform sneakers were a new purchase from DSW. I had a coupon and I had been looking at this type of sneaker since last summer. I finally took the plunge. They are not something I would use for walking, but they are cute for a casual day of picnicking or window shopping.

Pantone - Spring/Summer - 2021 - London Palette - Pirouette, Indigo Bunting and Polar Night

As always, with the Pantone color series, I find their choice of names for their colors intriguing. Today’s colors center on a pretty purply pink, called Pirouette, which, of course, makes me think of a ballerina. Indigo Bunting is a pretty blue, much like the bird after which it is named. I have had the privilege of seeing an Indigo Bunting flitting through the trees at one of our local metro parks a few years back. They regularly reside in Ohio in the summer time, but like to hang out in abandoned fields, scrubby bush areas and areas with red cedar trees, none of which I have around my house. Polar Night, much like its New York partner Inkwell, is a very dark navy blue.

This fun, multi-print dress is a few years old and was a Kohl’s clearance purchase. I really like many of the pieces by Vera Wang, made specifically for this retailer and called Simply Vera by Vera Wang. These are the pieces that real world women like myself can afford and wear. I have styled this dress, like a tunic for a trip we took to Florida a few years ago. You can see that post here. The dress really contains all three colors, except that its blue borders on being more of a teal.

I decided to add the bright blue sweater, another Christopher and Banks cardi, as my attempt at the Indigo Bunting. It is a tad bit bluer and maybe brighter, but I think it works well. I would have never thought to pair it with this dress, but I like how it looks.

This is me being silly as I commune with nature. Ha, ha.

I centered all my accessories around the necklace that is perfectly Pirouette. Since the beads are strung along a silver chain, I went for silver as my accessory color of choice. My thrifted silver clutch and my SO ballerina flats makes the outfit just a little more dressy.

Pantone - Spring/Summer - 2021 - London Palette: Illuminating, Marigold and Ultimate Gray

Illuminating and Ultimate Gray are the two colors of the year, so just like I did for the New York Palette, I decided to pair the two colors together and for this one I added Marigold, which was also on the New York palette.

We decided to go to the Toledo Botanical Gardens again for these pictures and we did come across some beautiful blooms. This particular bush is a rhododendron. I just did some research and found out that all azaleas are rhododendrons, but not all rhododendrons are azaleas. Whether you like azaleas or rhododendrons they are all beautiful.

Once again, I chose my recently thrifted bright yellow jacket to serve as the Illuminating color. The jacket is D&Co. (Denim and Co.). It has a nice stretch to it and I like the 3/4 length sleeves for a change of pace.

I’ve styled my medium yellow tee on the blog before. You can see it styled with a leopard print skirt. Having tees in a variety of colors comes in handy when you want to put an outfit together. This thrifted tee is Apt. 9 brand.

My Gloria Vanderbilt jeans were another Kohl’s clearance find. They are soft and stretchy, so great for my fluctuating weight. I say fluctuating, but it really doesn’t go up and down. It either stays the same or goes up. Ha, ha.

I wanted my accessories to make a statement since the outfit itself was not overwhelmingly interesting. I found this pretty layered necklace in gray tones somewhere along the way. I think it was a thrift shop nearby. I added a few beaded bracelets to tie the jewelry together.

When I decided on the thrifted tan loafers, I knew my Nine West snakeskin print circle bag would be the perfect piece to complete the whole look and bring everything together.

Pantone - Spring/Summer - 2021 - London Palette - Intro

I am finally getting around to sharing the Pantone London Palette with you. It has been hard to get things posted in a timely fashion. Even though I would normally try to get these colors to you, much earlier in the Spring, I figure they are meant for spring and summer, so we are still okay. Today’s post will introduce you to the colors and give you a few little sneak peeks from our recent photo shoot.

These are all great colors for spring and summer. The palette is a nice mix of warm and cool colors and there is likely to be a color for everyone. The classic colors, while still showcasing your typical navy, gray and creamy white, also includes a soft light brown and an mossy olive green. I really like the blues included with this palette. They make me think of tropical waters and blue skies.

Pantone - Autumn/Winter - 2020 - All the Outfits

I wanted to end this fall color series by showing you all of the colors from both the Pantone New York Palette and the Pantone London Palette. To make it a little more interesting I thought I would show outfits that have, either a same color or a similar color side by side.

I hope that you enjoyed this series. If there are any other topics in fashion that you are interested in learning more about, or in seeing me talk about or put together in an outfit, I would love for you to let me know. I don’t follow trends too closely and this fall, I totally missed the boat on that, so I do apologize. I know some of you enjoy hearing what the trends are for each season and seeing how I apply those to the “real” world. Often when we look at websites or see magazines with tall, thin models or celebrities who are seamlessly coifed we think there is no way we would want to try this or that, especially when it comes to runway trends. However, there are a lot of trends that we can participate in and enjoy like leopard print, various colors and different types of accessories.

I will keep doing this Pantone series as long as I am blogging, because I feel strongly that even though we might differ from each other in our style, color is something we all have in common. Approaching new, bold and different colors without fear is a way to expand your wardrobe and spice up your style without completely committing to a whole different way of doing things.

The Color Palettes Side by Side.

Samba

I love the color red and I think there is a red for every complexion. I think both of these outfits worked quite well and love that both of them present a more neutral palette with a bright pop of red. In the New York outfit on the left Samba is paired with Fired Brick and Sleet. In the London outfit on the right Samba is paired with Tawny Birch and Sheepskin.

Ultramarine Green

Ultramarine was on both palettes and I think it is a pretty green that can bring a peaceful, yet vibrant feel to any outfit. This color green would look great in a bag, jewelry or a scarf and to me it really seems to draw your eyes to it. Maybe it is just my love for the greens in nature that make me like this color so much. In the New York outfit on the left Ultramarine Green is paired with Classic Blue and Blue Depths. In the London palette on the right Ultramarine Green is paired with Exuberance and Sleet.

Military Olive

While I love bright and bold colors like the two I mentioned previously, I love using olive as a neutral. It goes with every color, and has a different vibe than gray or beige. It is classy, yet subtle. In the New York outfit on the left, Military Olive is paired with Peach Nougat and Sandstone. In the London outfit on the right Military Olive is paired with Strong Blue and Jet Stream.

Green Sheen/Celery

It is hard to tell in these pictures, but Green Sheen and Celery are pretty similar. I think, because the lighting is different the colors look brighter in the shaded picture. They are different colors, but not enough different that they couldn’t be exchanged from one outfit to another. In the New York outfit on the left, Green Sheen is paired with Amber Glow and Almond Oil. In the London outfit on the right, Celery is paired with Mandarin and Sheepskin.

The Other Colors

These last two are paired only because they were the last two and don’t really have anything in common. The New York outfit on the left is a combination of Rose Tan, Magenta Purple and Sleet. The London outfit on the right is a combination of Burnt Henna, True Blue and Dress Blues.

Pantone - Autumn/Winter - 2020 - London Palette - Burnt Henna, True Blue and Dress Blues

This is the last color combo in the Pantone - Autumn/Winter - 2020 - London Palette series. On Thursday I will have a recap post of all of the outfits from both palettes. Today’s outfit revolves around a cranberry red, a blue that is much like Classic Blue and navy.

Both of the Pantone palettes for fall were filled with blues and reds, but they also had plenty of other options, so if you are not a blue or red wearer, you still have other fabulous colors to wear. My Christopher and Banks ankle pants are not exactly Burnt Henna, but they will due. I got these and a pair of green ones when they were on clearance. They are stretchy, which allows for ease of movement. The only thing I don’t like about them is they have no belt loops. If a pair of pants fits perfectly you don’t really need a belt, but a belt always makes me feel more secure. Otherwise, I always feel like I am pulling my pants up. These are a size 12, which is usually my normal for Christopher and Banks.

True Blue is very much like Classic Blue. It is not a dark navy, like the Dress Blues, but a nice medium blue that almost everyone can wear. I wanted to wear layers, so I added a Christopher and Banks cardi and the scarf.

My Dress Blues jacket is a thrifted Ruff Hewn piece. It is a moto jacket, but instead of being strictly leather, or faux leather, it is made of a linen/cotton blend and faux leather for the leather like portions.

My plaid button down shirt is also a Christopher and Banks purchase from this year. It is a little bit textured which gives it an added dimension, even though in these pictures you can’t see it very well.

Once again, with all the layers and textures, I kept my accessories very simple. I have a navy flower pendant necklace, but unlike many pendant necklaces, mine is shorter.

You’ve see this Simply Vera Vera Wang bag on the blog before. This was a thrifted piece and provides a nice, roomy area which is especially good for traveling to pack a few extras like a notebook or reading book. I also added a few beaded bracelets with blues.

Finally, these are my newer ankle boots. Once again, these are SO brand, which are my go to faves for ankle boots from Kohl’s. They fit (size up a half size if you want to be able to wear extra thick socks in the colder temps), are easy to get on an off and seem to hold up quite well in our ever changing weather here in the mid west. These are the first pair I’ve gotten that actually have the zipper on the outside of the foot rather than the inside, which is a nice contrast.

Pantone - Autumn/Winter - 2020 - London Palette - Strong Blue, Military Olive and Jet Stream

Happy Thursday friends! Are you all as tired as I am. When morning comes I feel like I could just stay in bed for days. I am sure some of it has to do with our current Covid life. It really is extremely disheartening to see the numbers keep rising and know that there is really nothing different we can do, other than keep on keepin’ on. I implore, those of you who don’t wear masks, to at least consider it for the sake of others. These are very hard times. Do what you can to keep yourself busy and involved in life as much as you can. I have been spending a lot of time alone, when I am not with my family and I don’t think it is good for me. As an introvert, I enjoy my alone time, but I seriously feel like my brain is turning into slush. Anyone else feeling the “squishy brain syndrome”? I have also noticed a lax in my creativity. Going places and doing different things has always fed my creative brain, but being stuck at home, well, it isn’t very interesting. Ha, ha. What do you other creatives do to keep the creative vibes flowing? I’d love to have some feedback.

Today’s outfit centers around another medium blue, olive and white. Strong Blue could be a close cousin of Classic Blue. I was fortunate to have just found this graphic tee while thrifting. I think it matched the color perfectly and I really like the message. I can do the get up part, and being kind isn’t too hard, but being awesome is a bit of a stretch. Ha, ha.

This tee is a brand called Gildan. Once again, I have been exposed to a brand I had never heard of before, by thrifting. This is a basics retailer, selling tees, underwear, sweatpants and hoodies for men, women and children.

When we looked at the New York palette, Military Olive was a classic color. If you remember I wore it with Peach Nougat and Sandstone for that palette. You can click here to see the outfit again. For this look I just wanted to do something different from a solid colored sweater or jacket, and then I remembered I had this thrifted plaid piece. This is Jones NY brand and is part wool, so I can’t wear it without something long sleeved underneath. I made an exception with this outfit, because I knew I wouldn’t have it on very long. Wool makes me itch. I doesn’t matter if it is rich Merino wool or cashmere, my skin can tell the moment I put it on.

My Gloria Vanderbilt jeans have been on the blog numerous times before. They are a heavier weight, so perfect for the cooler temps of fall, winter and spring. They are really a little too white compared to the Jet Stream color which almost has a hint of tan or gray to it.

My military belt, SO ankle boots and beaded bracelets all have the Military Olive vibe.

I also added a heart necklace that has a sort of greenish colored stone. I think this used to belong to one of my daughters, who did not want it any more, so I snatched it. Ha, ha.

While my bag is not really Military Olive it does have an olive leaning and the blue flowers go well with the blue of the tee.

What do you think of this color combination? I like olive and blue together and I feel that olive goes with so many different blues, and really with so many different colors. It really can be used as a neutral in many situations.

Pantone - Autumn/Winter - 2020 - London Palette - Exuberance, Ultramarine Green and Sleet

We are looking at the Pantone - Autumn/Winter - London Palette and just like last Thursday’s post saw a repeat of Samba from the New York palette, today’s outfit offers a repeat of Ultramarine Green. You can see the original outfit from the New York palette here, where I paired it with Classic Blue. Today I am pairing this pretty green with a fall orange called Exuberance. Unlike New York’s Amber Glow, Exuberance is a smidge brighter and more bold.

You have seen these bright orange Gloria Vanderbilt pants repeatedly on the blog. I never would have thought they would have been part of so many outfits for the blog, when I bought them. When I was working as an assistant manager at the bookstore, I used to wear them as they are a nice trouser for work.

My Ultramarine Green button up is a thrifted Westbound piece. I have had this top for quite a while and don’t wear it that much, but every time I do, I think, I should wear it more often. It has such a pretty mottled green color and I love the embroidered texturing throughout. It just makes it a unique piece.

I also thought this cute little foxy infinity scarf worked perfectly to bring the whole outfit together. In the picture below you can see this statement necklace I got a while back from a shop in Grand Rapids, OH. They have the cutest shops and restaurants. Unfortunately, I haven’t been there since Covid came upon us.

Since there is just a touch of yellow in my necklace I grabbed this bright yellow, thrifted Bueno bag. I love the bright color and the buckles.

These gray boots were another thrift store find and are Guess brand. I was very excited when I found them, because I was looking for a knee high gray pair.

I also added a few bracelets in the Ultramarine color.

My Sleet colored jacket was a J.Jill find at a thrift store. It is a tad tight if I try to button it, but I hate to get rid of it, since it is such a beautiful piece. I has a fabulous paisley print lining in pinks and purples.

Pantone - Autumn/Winter - 2020 - London Palette - Samba, Tawny Birch, and Sheepskin

Today’s neutral palette is interrupted by the bold, daring color red. Samba was in our New York palette and if you don’t remember which outfit that was you can see it again here. In the New York outfit I paired Samba with Fired Brick and Sleet for a chic work outfit with a bit of subtle print mixing. Today’s outfit, once again, would be perfect for the office or a date night with your significant other. In this time of Covid restrictions do you get dressed up to go out, or do you go out at all? Thus far my hubby and I usually get take out and either bring it home or take it to a park and eat it, so I’m afraid I haven’t been getting very dressed up, usually just jeans and a nicer shirt. It really depends on the day. I am not sure what we are going to do when the weather gets real cold.

When I was looking for pieces for this whole fall Pantone series, I knew I wanted to incorporate this thrifted, red, Calvin Klein, sleeveless sweater. I originally bought the piece thinking I could use it as a sweater vest, which, seeing as it is a larger size will offer enough room to put a blouse or long sleeve tee underneath. It will probably show up again either on the blog or in my Instagram feed. If you don’t follow me on Instagram make sure you do. I show you more of my day to day outfits there and occasional cute pictures of our cat and pretty scenery.

My Sheepskin colored cardigan was another thrifted piece. I thought it was a good balance between tan and beige and will be wearable with just about any color. This is a thrifted St. John’s Bay piece.

My Tawny Birch houndstooth patterned ankle pants have been on the blog before. These are Sonoma and were thrifted. You can see them styled in the Pantone Fall 2017 series, and in another series I did on vests.

Since I really wanted the red sweater to be the focal point of the outfit, I kept my bag and shoes a similar neutral tan color to the sweater and pants. Both thrifted, the bag is New Directions and the boots are Aerosoles. Then I added pearls. I thought this made for a great work look.

Pantone - Autumn/Winter - 2020 - London Palette - Mandarin, Celery and Sheepskin

I am now able to start the Pantone - Autumn/Winter 2020 - London Palette series. I am not sure why the Pantone Color Institute moved to having two palettes rather than one, except that it is a way to bring in a broader audience to market to. Whatever their reasoning, having two color palettes to draw from to create outfits is a fun challenge for me as a fashion blogger. Some of the colors crossed over from New York to London, but I’ll be showing them again, styled with their London counterparts. Here we go.

Just as with the New York Palette, the London Palette has four classic colors. I tried to include one of the classics with each of the outfits, just so you know what they look like. With this first outfit, Sheepskin, which is a classic, neutral color, is reminiscent of Peach Nougat and Sandstone from the New York Palette. My jacket isn’t really a dark enough version of this pinky tan, but you still get the idea.

My bright Mandarin red skirt is a thrifted piece by a brand called Kim Rogers. It was not a brand I was familiar with, but seems to be sold at retailers like Belk and online thrift retailers like Poshmark. Once again, the tiered skirt is a fave of mine. I guess I was supposed to be a gypsy. I often imagine that I have gypsy relatives, because my dad always loved to travel and we have French blood via his relatives. Ha, ha.

My Celery colored top is a 3/4 sleeve sweater, and a thrifted Banana Republic piece. I decided to tuck it in and add the black belt to go with the black print in the jacket and my black boots. I feel like I should have tightened the belt a notch, so you couldn’t see the skirt at the top. Oh well.

This jacket was a fun piece I found thrifting. I like the bright orange flowers and the artistic sketching on it. It is a brand called Susan Graver Style. Susan Graver is a stylist for the retailer QVC. Once again, I learned something new and found a brand I never would have tried, if I didn’t thrift.

I kept my accessories simple, because there is a lot going on in the print of the jacket and the texture of the skirt and bag. You’ve seen this necklace on the blog before. It is a unique piece I found at an artisan shop up in Grayling, MI a few years ago, when my hubby and I took a short trip up there. You can see it styled for another Pantone color palette here. I also added a simple charm bracelet with rusty fall colors and my thrifted fringe bag.

Since we are now fully into fall, I am regularly wearing my boots. I have quite a pile of boots, mostly ankle and knee high. These are Massini brand and are very comfortable. I’ve styled these on the blog before with a black pair of jeans, and a slip dress.

What do you think of these colors? I think if I had worn the colors by themselves without the jacket it would have looked like I was advertising for McDonalds. Ha. ha.

Pantone Spring/Summer - 2020 - Tanager Turquoise, Heritage Blue and Blanc de Blance

This is our last set of colors for this Pantone Spring/Summer 2020 series. Thursday I will do a recap of all the outfits from both palettes. Today’s blues are perfect for summer. Think tropical waters and blue skies and you have Tanager Turquoise and Heritage Blue. Pairing these two blues with white just seemed to be the right thing to do for a pretty summer outfit.

The basis for this outfit turned out to be a short sleeve floral sweater that I found while thrifting before the lockdown ever happened. I have yet to step back into a thrift store. I know many people are getting back out and resuming normal life, but I and my family have chosen to be a little more cautious. My husband and I have aging parents and we haven’t been able to spend any time since last fall visiting with them. Usually we spend the Thanksgiving through New Years holidays traveling to see our parents and other extended family, but this past fall, my job situation changed and I took on a seasonal job that did not allow for travel. Then, of course the pandemic happened. We miss our parents and hope to see them in a few weeks, Lord willing, but COVID is far from over.

Anyhow, this pretty sweater is Land’s End brand. It is perfect for these lingering cooler days of spring, before the really hot weather of summer begins, which for us, appears to be happening in just a couple of days. It is a medium weight with a crew neck and banded bottom. It has plenty of stretch so is easy to get on an off, although not like a regular tee shirt. Here are a few Land’s End tee’s to check out: leaf print, tropical, striped with ruffled sleeves, pale pineapple stripe, and here is a cute sleeveless polo as well.

I am also wearing one of my summer pants staples, my Christopher & Banks crop pants. I have used these numerous times on the blog. They are the perfect weight and thickness for summer and they have a banded waistline, so just pull on and off.

I added my light blue Croft and Barrow sweater that I have had for a number of years. I thought that this color mimicked the Tanager Turquoise in a softer more pastel shade. Now that I see the pictures, I think the blue flowers in the short sleeve sweater were a closer representation of that rather aqua blue color, with my purse being a closer shade to the Heritage Blue. Here are a few similar cardigans to look at: essential button up, seed stitch and another button up in darker colors.

I kept my accessories fairly simple since the floral sweater is doing all the talking. A few beaded bracelets, a bead and silver necklace that disappears in the sweater, the blue Rosetti cross body bag and my silver SO flats round out the outfit.

Pantone Spring/Summer - 2020 - Blush Beauty, Bossa Nova and Blanc de Blanc

Today’s two bright colors might seem like an unlikely pairing, but then if you have been following me for a while, you know the crazier the color combo the more I want to try it. In some ways these colors combined almost make the outfit seem monochrome. Blush Beauty is a pinkish orange, so we might say it is like salmon or coral. Bossa Nova is a dark red with a little bit of a brown undertone. I added a Classic color Blanc de Blanc which is white by any other name. I know that there are shades of white, but for all intents and purposes, white is white. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

My paisley short sleeve tunic top is a thrifted Old Navy piece. It has a lace up detail that is just for show, but the print is what drew me to it. I have always like paisley. It just makes me think of the 60’s and 70’s and lots of my Dad’s old ties. Ha. ha. Here is a look at the outfit without the jacket so you get a better view of the top.

My pants are W63 from dressbarn. I’ve styled these on the blog before. You can see them worn with a coral sweater, a multi print jacket, and with a LuLaRoe perfect tee. One thing I noticed as I looked back at these pictures and the one above, these pants are always wrinkled when I wear them. Part of that may be the material as it sticks to my legs, and part of it may be my chunky legs. Ha, ha.

Here you can see the lace up detail on the top and the thrifted distressed Rue 21 cropped jean jacket. This is another piece that has gotten frequent wear on the blog. See it with a floral midi dress and a maxi dress, a high-waisted skirt, dark wash jeans, and with a leopard print skirt.

I thought the white accessories were a good compliment to go with the white in the top. The Jaclyn Smith bag was thrifted and the Keds were a Kohl’s clearance purchase a year or two ago.

Pantone Spring/Summer 2020 - Storm, Fiery Red and Blueberry

Last week I was really struggling with all that was going on in the world and in our country, so I only posted once, and never did send out an email. I apologize for that. Sometimes, life is like a sucker punch to the gut and you have to step back and try to catch your breath. I am going to approach the subject of all that is happening and my own response to it on my Faith page tomorrow, so just know that I do feel this is important enough to talk about, but I do not think it needs to be done on my Fashion page. Be sure to look for that post tomorrow.

Today we are looking at two very bright and bold colors. When I thought about pairing Storm with Fiery Red, I knew I wanted to keep it as far away from looking Christmasy as possible. Obviously, Storm would never be mistaken for the typical Christmas green that we usually associate with that holiday, but things have changed. Christmas green and red are no longer the only color combinations in holiday decor. Still, I wanted this look to evoke a feeling of fierce femininity, so let me know what you think.

This thrifted, graphic tee from Old Navy is the perfect green and considering everything we have been going through, I love its positive message. Everything has beauty, we just need to look for it.

I had some sheets hanging out on the line on the day we took these pictures, so we had a little fun with it.

Rather than create an outfit with a full red piece, I thought I would show you an outfit where you use one color just in your accessories and wow, what a statement it makes! The Fiery Red bandana in my hair, the jewelry and the bag, add that bright red color, without being overwhelming. Some people feel less comfortable wearing bright colors and prefer to just stick to the classics, like navy, gray or black. Adding a bright color really boosts the overall look of an outfit.

My medallion print skirt is from Christopher and Banks last year. I like that it is light weight, and yet not at all see through. Win, win. I felt that it was a good match for the Blueberry Pantone classic color.

You’ve seen these loafer heels numerous times on the blog before. I got these thrifting and have had them for years, but they still look pretty good. The plus side of real leather. These are Relativity brand.

Pantone Spring/Summer - 2020 - Yellow Iris, Rose Brown and Cuban Sand

Today I am featuring two colors I was not quite sure what to do with. When I began searching for these colors in my closet I was sure I wasn’t going to be able to find them. Rose brown is an odd color; not exactly brown, but not really pink, it has a purplish feel to it. Yellow Iris was another tough one for me. I don’t have a ton of pastels in my wardrobe. I like jewel tones and earthy colors, so this pale yellow was stumping me. I have a lot of yellow in my wardrobe; bright yellow, mustard yellow, sunflower yellow, and so on, but not a lot of pale yellow. While Sunlight from the New York palette had an almost light beige or tan vibe to it, this Yellow Iris is strictly a pale yellow. This is what I came up with. Let me know what you think.

I found this floral embellished tee first when looking for these colors. The flowers bear a close resemblance to Rose Brown. This is a thrifted Christopher and Banks tee. The Yellow Iris button up is a thrifted White Stag piece and while not quite as dark as the Pantone color is similar enough. The next pieces I had that were a light yellow were too yellow. Ha, ha.

I added this brown woven belt, because it has a bit of that Rose Brown vibe going on as do the two necklaces I chose. They are definitely a darker brown color, but different than a regular brown, and I thought they went well with the tee.

The gold in the longer necklace made me reach for my gold clutch. You can also see that I added a few simple seed bead bracelets to add a touch more of the Rose Brown color.

My white crop pants I have styled on the blog before. You can see them styled with a dress in another Pantone shoot here. These are a thrifted St. John’s Bay brand.

I looked up the difference between a caged sandal and a gladiator sandal and discovered that there really is no difference. Many gladiator styles come up higher on the leg, much like a boot and involve some sort of lacing, but both gladiator and caged sandals are basically an open style of sandal with numerous straps coming across the foot. They can be open toe, thong or closed toe in variety. The gladiator style ones I have on are Massini brand. I like that they cover more of my foot than a sandal with only a few straps. They also have a small block heel, which I think makes them a little more dressy.
