Pantone Spring/Summer 2026 - New York Palette: Muskmelon, Marina, and Sage Green

Hi everyone! It is time for another Pantone color series. If you are new to my blog, every spring and every fall the Pantone Color Institute comes out with a palette of colors for the coming season. Due to life being relentless, I usually don’t cover these colors until we are well into the spring and/or fall season, but I have had many of you tell me that you enjoy this series, so I decided to just keep doing it even if I am a bit behind.

Instead of trying to put together the colors on the palette by my own choices I made it easy on myself and simply went down the column of colors on the Pinterest pin which you can see here. As you can see in the first column we have today’s colors: Muskmelon, Marina and Sage Green. As per usual the first ten colors on the palette are the new colors for the season and the last six are the classic colors. Both the New York and the London palette contain a color named White Onyx, which I may or may not include in an outfit or two. I feel that white is a personal choice when it comes to fashion. Some women look better in cream, others look better in a crisp white, so I leave the whites for you to decide.

Style Tip: You can easily add white, in whatever variation you like to wear, to an outfit in the form of a bag, beads, a scarf, or a pair of sandals or sneakers.

Let’s start with this pretty Muskmelon orange. It is not pink, but also not as orange as an orange would be. I think this one has been named appropriately. I chose my Natural Reflections flannel shirt from Bass Pro Shops, due to the color and the cozy factor. It might say spring on the calendar, but in my area spring is here one day and gone the next. Right now Bass Pro has a number of flannel shirts on clearance. It is a good time to stock up. See more here. Kohl’s is also having a good clearance sale right now, so check them out too.

For the Marina blue, I decided to use these thrifted Sidefeel jeans. These have a wider leg, and a bit of stretch, which makes them comfortable, but also a tad bit dressier. I had never heard of this brand before, but if you click on the link you can check out their website. I know nothing about where their products are manufactured, but I get a feel they are a fast fashion retailer due to the low pricing and the statement that they purchase their items “in bulk.” I prefer to stay away from the fast fashion manufacturers and retailers, but I am also a thrifter, so I feel there are plenty of gently used items that need a new home. However, I realize not everyone wants to thrift and everyone also needs to buy according to their own budget.

For my Sage Green color I chose this thrifted Jenny Buchanan quilted jacket. I love this piece, and it is reversible, so it can be worn with the sage green out or switch it and it will be a pretty forest green. My biggest complaint about this piece is that it doesn’t have pockets. Ha, ha. Here is a very pretty quilted jacket from Kohl’s, not in the same color, but a fun piece.

I felt there was enough going on in the outfit between the plaid and the quilting on the jacket that I didn’t need to overdo the accessories. My second hand Tignanello bag was like a brighter version of the Marina blue.

My jewelry was all over the place as far as the blue color was concerned and I almost feel I should have went with something orange to bring out more of the Muskmelon color, like a scarf, but I didn’t have anything that was close to that color. It is obvious my bracelets were too much of a purple color. Oh well. :)

My booties were a thrift purchase last spring and I haven’t really worn them, but they are so cute. They are Merona brand and actually wool. I love the wedge heel. I am also amazed that they are as comfortable as they are. I need to remember these next fall to wear with skirts.

Color Play - A Pinterest Fall Color Palette

I have been collecting color palettes on Pinterest for quite a while, so I thought it would be fun to revisit that board and see what I could pull up for a fun fall color combination. This is the pin I drew my inspiration from and I used the swatch labeled Fall Fashion. I liked all the color combos, but I guess I wasn’t feeling overly adventurous, so went with the more conservative of the bunch.

This is a rich, earthy combination for fall, and I like how the green and brown are more sedate while the bright blue is a lovely pop of color. When I saw the color swatch I knew the olive would be a good color choice for a topper, as I have a number of sweaters and jackets in that color.

My faux leather moto jacket is an older Christopher and Banks piece. I like that it is simple, light weight and it has stretchy cloth panels on both sides and along the backs of the sleeves. They no longer seem to make these types of jackets, but always keep an eye out at thrift stores. In addition, real leather is always more suitable for longer wear and tear. I added this thrifted green scarf, because fall is always a good time for a scarf! This was a fun find as I didn’t have too many green scarves and I love the delicate look of it.

I was also dressing for an Instagram challenge today and the theme had to do with bling. This cute joei & i “Blessed” top was a gift from my oldest a few years ago and I do love it. It is the perfect weight for a cool fall day, and the sparkle makes it top notch in my book. You can also see the necklace I added. One can never have too many accessories on at one time, right? Ha, ha. In reality, if this was a work outfit, I would most likely take the jacket and scarf off while at the office, so the necklace works.

I have worn this skirt multiple times on the blog. It is St. John’s Bay brand and was purchased from JCPenney a number of years ago. You can see this skirt paired with a spotted tee, a bookish vest, and more recently a fringe vest.

My boots are second hand old, but they are real suede, so with a little TLC I will keep them indefinitely. They are a brand called Kelly & Katie.

Color Play - Finding Inspiration in Wall Art

We don’t just have to go to Pinterest to find inspiration for our outfits, although that is a great source for all sorts of color combinations. All you need to do is type in your color combo and outfits of all sorts will pop up. For example if I type in, “Neon green with brown outfit,” or “Outfits with neon green and brown,” you’ll get a variety. If you want to only search casual outfits, add the word casual to your search.

I am one who likes variety when it comes to where I am getting my color inspiration, so it is a good thing the sources are unlimited. Besides nature, one of my favorite places for inspiration is wall art. From water colors to oils, to photographs to tiles in kitchen back splashes or bathroom trim, I love to create outfits using those colors.

Today’s outfit revolves around two pieces of wall art that were hanging at the house we staying at on our trip to Kentucky. I loved the colors in each. (I had to take the pictures at an angle to cut the glare on the glass that was over the prints.)

As I started looking through my closet I was struck by how many different outfits could be derived from these prints. I may have to revisit these at a future date. Today’s casual outfit pulled out the bold red, dark and medium blue, and the creamy light brown.

Everything in this outfit is second hand, except for the tee shirt. My white v-neck tee is Time and Tru brand from Walmart from a year or two ago. These make great basic tees and are totally affordable. If you click on the Walmart link you’ll see they have two packs of these types of tees in various colors.

I pulled out a pair of straight leg jeans as it was going to be a little cool and rainy on the day I took these pictures. These are Old Navy brand and are called The Sweetheart. As I usually do, I rolled these. Having my ankles showing makes me stay cooler and it just seems more appropriate for the summer weather.

My print jacket is a Christopher and Banks piece. It seems to be a blend of leopard, and floral. I thought the lighter colors would be good for the warmer weather. It is also lighter weight than a denim or utility jacket. Once again, the beauty of thrift shopping is that you can find all your favorite brands at reduced prices and keep them out of the landfill.

Since the jeans incorporated the darker blue of the picture, I added the brighter blue crossbody bag to pull in the pretty blue of the vase in the second print. This is Tignanello brand.

Now let’s talk about the color red. Red provides such a wonderful pop of color in any outfit that is somewhat understated. I think the red flower necklace and the red shoes make this outfit more fun and interesting. I just found these awesome red shoes at my favorite dollar thrift store. They are like brand new and are a brand called Comfortiva.

Color Play - Black and Olive

I love color. Bright color, dark color, bold color, muted color, neutral color, pastel color, and all manner of prints and print mixes. I do not think I have met a color I didn’t like, or at least that I didn’t see potential for its use. Many people will disagree with me when I say, every woman can wear every color, but my reasoning is based on two factors: the shade or hue of the color, and where the color is worn on the body. While it is true that not every woman can wear a stark black next to her face, there are numerous shades and hues of black from gray black, to blue black and even brown black. In addition, if a woman just doesn’t like any shade of black near her face, there is no reason she can’t wear black pants, or have plentiful black shoes and bags.

My desire with this monthly look at color is to open your mind to embracing colors outside your normal comfort zone. There is no problem with being an all neutrals kind of gal, but start thinking about adding a little pizzazz to your outfit with a bright pink beaded necklace and earrings , or a lovely printed scarf with rusty oranges, reds and yellows. This isn’t just about how you look to the outside world. This is also about loving yourself and enjoying all the beautiful color in this world we live in.

For today’s post, I decided to start with two colors that are fairly classic and unobtrusive: black and olive.

Let me first say, having a daughter who is a professional photographer always makes me keenly aware of what I lack in the picture taking realm. I will give you pictures. I will either take them on my phone or on my camera, but they won’t be to the standard I would like, ha, ha. Now that I have said my piece, on with the post.

Olive is one of those greens that can come in a variety of shades. Check out this page from when I Googled olive color shades. The olive color of my older Sonoma cardigan from Kohl’s, and on this thrifted, Forever 21, camouflage sweater is what I would call olive drab, or military olive. It leans more towards brown than a true olive green. However, if you put it next to a brown sweater, it definitely looks green.

It is easy to pair olive with black. For that matter, any color pairs just as well with black as with white. Just envision this same outfit with a pair of white wide leg jeans instead of the black skinnies. It would work perfectly and give the look a whole new vibe.

My black skinnies are Simply Vera by Vera Wang and I either got them on the clearance rack at Kohl’s or at a thrift store. I really can’t remember. Yes, I know! I am still wearing my skinnies. They will likely come back around, as most things do, so I won’t be getting rid of them.

My Seven Dials combat boots are starting to show some wear, but they are one of my faves and so comfortable.

I added a few pieces of jewelry and a thrifted Tignanello bag.

I actually got this cute little bag when we were in Wisconsin for my father-in-law’s funeral. Since we ended up staying the whole week we were a bit underprepared, so I went to a thrift store to get us a few things for the funeral.

Olive and black are a great color combination for any season. In the spring you could combine a pair of black joggers with an olive zip up hoodie for a cozy, casual lunch as the temps are still cool. In the summer try pairing olive trousers with a black silky sleeveless for a classic work look. In the fall reach for that warm olive pullover to wear with your black maxi skirt.

Remember you don’t have to go full bore with these colors. You can just use each of these colors as accents with any other colored outfit. Wearing a navy dress? Reach for a set of olive beads and an olive bag and shoes. You can still have fun with a variety of colors without having to invest a lot of money.
